Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance do I need to book my wedding photography services?
For local (Canadian) weddings, your hall, church and photographer are typically the first services you should be booking.  As our photographers only take on one wedding per weekend (each) in order to give you and your wedding the full attention you deserve, we recommend booking with us eight to eighteen months in advance.  Should you not be planning this far ahead however, please contact us to see if your date is still available!
For Destination weddings, it’s best to book your photographer four to twelve months away from your wedding week (or more if you are are set on a particular week).  Though you may not be able to confirm your tickets until four to six months ahead of your departure, we are happy to reserve your week for you until you have finalized everything with your travel agent.  We always leave wiggle room for last minute changes on flight days, so there’s no need to worry about exact booking dates.  Again, feel free to check with us on our availability for your wedding week if you are booking a more last-minute getaway!

I know that it is important to not only hire a photographer whose work I love and who has great experience, but also one that I will feel comfortable with throughout my day… how can I find out more about you?
Each of our fabulous photographers would be happy to book a consultation with you at a mutually convenient time so we may get to know each other better in person.  Phone or Skype consultations are also available if you are not within a convenient drive-able distance from the Kitchener/Guelph/Toronto/Barrie area.  You can also find out more about us by reading our About Us page. Also, a great way of finding more about your photographer is to read our Love Letters from our couples and ask to speak to couples that have used the same services that you are considering.  We also have a fabulous quiz you can take online (which is amazingly accurate) to see which of our photographers is perfect for you, and don’t forget to Like and Follow us on Facebook & Twitter!

Which package is right for me?  How many hours do I need?
How many hours you’ll need depends on your day’s itinerary: when you’re having your reception, and how much of the getting ready/reception you’d like captured.  We specialize in telling the whole story of your wedding – beginning to end, however if you don’t require full day coverage, or if you have a more compact itinerary, we would be thrilled to create a custom package for you based on your needs.
Email us to book a chat — we would be happy to walk you through your basic itinerary of your day to help you decide how many hours would be best for your day/week.

Do I really need a second photographer?
We will defer to Offbeat Bride for the answer to this as we believe it’s a personal preference. “No one needs a second photographer, but they can provide you with more images and a different perspective.  Many of the top photographers only work with assistants who carry gear and help with professional lighting. The best thing is to ask your wedding photographer to see how they prefer to work. You can get good results either way.”

Do you have an assistant?
We sometimes bring an assistant with us to local Ontario weddings to make sure the day runs smoothly, to help with our gear, for a second set of eyes, and to assist you with the “little things” that sometimes need immediate attention but we don’t always find it necessary. For Destination Weddings, Lindsay, and Crystal are almost-always a one-woman team so there are no extra travel costs for you… unless you want two photographers and then Luc & Tania or Katerina & Eugene would be happy to oblige.

How much time should I set aside for family/portrait photos?
We suggest an hour and a half at minimum to capture the family portraits, wedding party photos & portraits of you as a couple. If you have a large family and would like portraits incorporating several different family groupings, or if you want to trek to different locations with your wedding party, a longer amount of time should be set aside.  This longer period of time (two to three hours) will also create a more laid-back atmosphere no matter how many people you have, and allow you to not feel rushed or venture to fun and unique locations.  Portraits may be taken before or after the ceremony (or a bit of both) to help ease time constraints and impatient guests.

How do I make sure we don’t miss anyone during the portraits?
It’s always recommended that you prepare a list of people before the big day of people you would like portraits taken with.  You can either send this list to us beforehand or give it to someone close to the family that might act as a family coordinator (or both).  If someone is appointed that knows the family members, it allows us to continue shooting candid shots in between portraits while someone else is interacting and organizing your family.

Do you bring back-up equipment?
Of course!  We always bring a second camera body along with extra lenses, multiple digital memory cards, and a sloo of batteries and accessories to make sure that we don’t miss a moment…

Will you be staying for dinner?
As we will be by your side for the better part of the day, we would appreciate to be included in any and all meal arrangements that fall within our booked time.  It is also best to designate a spot for us in amongst the guests so we can be ready to jump up and capture an unexpected moment, and keep with the flow and energy of your day.  If this is not possible however, being kept close to the “action” is always appreciated.

What happens if you’re sick?
Honestly, we will be there rain or shine – whether we are on top of the weather or “under” it.  Should the unthinkable happen however and your chosen photographer is completely unable for some reason to attend, we will do our best to find an acceptable, replacement photographer for you either within our team, or outside of it.

Do you have an appearance policy?
Absolutely.  Your wedding deserves respect.  Our attire on your wedding day is chosen to fulfill our needs as a photographer as well as promote a professional impression.  If you’re having a theme wedding, we will attempt to blend in with your theme as much as possible.

When will I receive my photos?
Photo-processing depends on a number of factors including the season you are married in, the package you have chosen and how many photos we took during the course of your day/week.  Taking these factors into account, we will be happy to discuss an approximate completion date with you.  Normally however, your hand-edited photos and final package are usually delivered to you within two to four months from your wedding date barring any special circumstances, and engagement/portrait sessions are usually delivered within two to four weeks.

How long do you keep our photos on file?
Digital image files are kept for one year from the date of your wedding, and and images uploaded to your private professional printing gallery are available for a minimum of 90 days once your receive your final package. We’d love to keep your gallery up online for as long as you’d like but may need to eventually take it down to make room for other events. We highly recommend that you back up your image files to a safe place (or several safe places) once you receive your final package.
