Here is Erin & Andrew’s Wedding Story as told by Erin and as featured on the WeddingLovely blog!

Featured on Wedding LovelyThis story begins not with a hugely romantic or out of this world moment but with two gym goers whose bond began over a mutual love of the Montreal Canadiens.  Yes, my husband and I met at the gym (how cliché) and side by side on elliptical trainers we bonded over the Habs, flirted through our sweat and quickly fell in love. Our relationship moved fast and strong through the typical milestones and as the title of our first dance by Ella Washington, we knew of each other early on “I want to walk through this life with you”.

From the minute we were engaged we set our eyes 9 months almost to the day (when you know, you know, we wanted a fall or winter wedding…and clearly the question “How long will it take for my dress to come in” was a contributing factor!). Once again we were passing quickly through milestones, these ones in the form of Wedding Checklists helping us set the stage to get married surrounded by our closest 110 family and friends!

First things first, we needed a venue! We had decided on a theme of Vintage Glam. Simple yet elegant; Classic with a Vintage and Glamorous feel. When we set our eyes on the Walper Terrace Hotel in Kitchener, we knew we had hit the jackpot. What’s more glamorous than a venue filled with chandeliers, a grand piano and a history that includes Louis Armstrong playing out of one of the windows!?  Furthermore the price was right at $129/person at the top end for all inclusive meal and drinks with a tonne of options.

Next was our attire. Upon several recommendations I booked in at Taylors Bridal in Elmira and was not disappointed (my Enzoani dress WITH alterations came in under $2200 and my girls under $250). Andrew bought a suit at Paul Puncher in Waterloo (impeccable service, total $950) and his groomsmen rented from Tip Top in Guelph ($220).  My favourite addition was my Brooch Bouquet which I made for under $225!  I was able to create a little piece of family history and included brooches from our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers ensuring a piece of them was with us throughout our day.

For our décor, trying to pinch a penny here or there, I spent some quality hours on sites such as helping me to prepare and source décor, escort cards, wedding favours and more. We did hire Kim from The Creative Bride to rent our Centerpieces (Large candelabras) and she also put together the bridesmaid bouquets (Fuchsia roses with black ostrich feathers). Kim is truly a one stop shop, very professional and came in well under $1000. Don’t shy away from getting quotes as they are often able to rent or source items much cheaper than the average DIY bride.

On our wedding day I arranged to bring the beautifying process to us at the hotel including my make-up artist Lisa Heil ($100 for bride and $45 for bridesmaids) and Hairstylist Sonia from Salon Specchio ($350 for the entire day, she did 7 “do’s”).  No matter what the weather elements, we did not have to leave the building.  The men had shaves and haircuts at the very vintage Black and White Barber in Guelph ($10/p) which also provided some excellent photos!

Last but certainly not least our photography experience with Michelle from Captured Soul Photography was out of this world. I had worked with Michelle 5 years earlier at my MOH’s wedding and fell in love with her and her work. She was the third deciding factor for our date – no way no how was I getting married without Michelle capturing every moment. Michelle took charge of bringing us to unique areas around our venue; she guided us, our friends and family in looking fabulous, and quite efficiently captured the essence, love and happiness of our day. We opted to received the 12×12 look book for our coffee table and still enjoy flipping through and transporting back in our memories. Michelle’s pictures captured moments that will last our lifetime and beyond.

We were blessed to have the most relaxing, fun, heart bursting with love filled day.  My biggest piece of advice? Leave your stress and worries at the door. The details will be perfect or the details will take a mind of their own… the day you marry the love of your life will be perfect no matter what. Take the time with your new partner to breath in the moment when the rest of your life begins…then celebrate with one heck of a party!!
