photography

Photography is truly my earliest and most enduring passion. My first camera was a 1978 Nikon FE which was handed down to me in 1986 by my mother. I shot everything and spent most of my allowance developing film at an alarming rate. The camera and I were inseparable during high school and university. Several years of photography and multimedia courses at York University inspired me as did a summer workshop at Brock University. In the late 90's, I discovered a second Nikon FE camera at Toronto's Old Photography Show and Sale - the treasure of the century - and soon had a camera on each hip, shooting tandem colour and black and white film. For many years afterward I lived my photography as a passionate hobby. Now equipped digitally (and still loyal to Nikon), I find myself shooting with an overly happy trigger-finger attempting to capture each incredible moment: something I curse repeatedly when I sit back down at my computer and proceed to process and artistically enhance each image individually. But it is well worth it! - as here I am, two decades later, manifesting my dream into a life and a successful business with a new found love for the art, the beauty and the life behind the souls and spirits that are captured by my camera.

weddings

One of my greatest passions in photography is shooting weddings. I have always found that weddings are an incredible source of true joy and excitement as well as an amazing opportunity to let a photographer's talent shine. Perhaps my passion is due to the fact that I have been involved in weddings in some form or another since I was barely able to stand. I was raised in a business that specialized in bridal gift registrations and because of this, I have been surrounded by the vibrancy of weddings throughout my early life as well as for many years in my previous career. But more likely, it is due to the fact that I have been involved in so many weddings - helping with planning, photographing, organizing, or simply standing up in support. I have been a flower girl once, bridesmaid five times, maid of honour twice, and a bride. I have had the marvelous opportunity to aid in the event planning of several of these as well as other weddings, officially and unofficially photographing many others. All of these amazing experiences have truly lead to two things: my enduring love of this beautiful tradition and the knowledge that my camera bag will always contain an emergency kit of safety pins, bobby pins, a sewing kit, Advil, Kleenex, and Tic Tacs.

destination weddings

I cannot say enough about how much I love destination weddings. Yes, I am partial to sun and ocean and fabulous spicy food, but there are so many more reasons to hop a plane bound for the tropics other than the obvious amazing weather and the perfect margarita. Capturing destination weddings has taken hold of my focus so entirely that I have made the decision that Captured Soul Photography will be casting sail from Ontario and migrating to warmer waters as of 2012. This is at least the plan... and it is quickly coming into being. In the meantime, I am concentrating on marketing myself in the destination wedding arena and looking forward to being your foreign correspondent!
